Fidelia Agnes Engle Lawson

Fidelia Agnes Engle (Margaret2, John1) was born in Royalton, Ohio, July 23, 1835. She was the youngest child of Margaret and Robert Engle. Her early life was spent in the home of her parents amid such scenes as are described in the life of her mother. In 1858 she went to Iowa to visit her half brother, Lindsley Engle. There she became acquainted with Henry Lawson to whom she was married Mar. 6, 1859. Henry Lawson was born in London, England, July 12, 1823. When nineteen years of age he came to the United States. During the Mexican war he served as a private under Gen. John C. Fremont. Mr. Lawson was in northern California when gold was discovered. He and a partner worked a gold mine for a time. He then moved to Iowa, where he married Fidelia Engle.

Their oldest child, Austin, was born in Royalton, Ohio, while Mrs. Lawson was visiting her mother.

In 1866 Mr. Lawson moved with his family to Berea, Ohio. Here their oldest child, Austin, was drowned July 12, 1867, in a pond in one of the Berea stone quarries. In 1872 Mr. Lawson purchased a farm in Sheffield township, Ashland County, Ohio. Here they resided until 1877 when they returned to Berea.

A few years later they moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where Mr. Lawson died in 1890. In 1892 Mrs. Lawson and family went to Los Angeles, Cal. In 1901 she purchased a farm near Highland, Cal., where the family still resides. Mrs. Lawson died April 5, 1912.

Adaline M. (Fidelia3, Margaret2, John1) daughter of Fidelia and Henry Lawson was born in Iowa, June 16, 1862. Her life from 1866 to 1892 was spent in Berea, Sheffield, and Cleveland, Ohio. Since then she has resided in or near Los Angeles, Cal. She is employed in a laundry in Los Angeles, and her home is with her mother's family in Highland.

Margaret L. Lawson (Fidelia3, Margaret2, John1) was born Dec. 13, 1864, in Iowa. The family moved to Berea, Ohio, in 1866 and from that time until 1892 her home was for six years in Berea, five years in Sheffield, and the remainder of the time in Berea and Cleveland. In 1892 her mother's family moved to Los Angeles, Cal. Here in 1895 she was married to John F. Goudy. He proved to be intemperate and she was divorced from him. She is a dressmaker by occupation and is employed in Los Angeles. Her home is with the family in Highland.

Maud A. Lawson (Fidelia3, Margaret2, John1) was born in Berea, Ohio, Mar. 20, 1867. She spent her early years in Berea, Sheffield, and Cleveland, Ohio. She was educated in the schools of Berea and Cleveland. She was beautiful of feature and lovely in character. In 1892 her mother and family moved to Los Angeles, Cal. Here she was married July 16, 1900, to George A. Webber. Her married life was brief. She died at her home in Los Angeles, Oct. 17, 1902.


Jesse Lawson

Jesse Lawson (Fidelia3, Margaret2, John1) was born Aug. 19, 1875, in Sheffield, Ashland, County, Ohio. He was the youngest child of Fidelia Agnes and Henry Lawson. His parents moved to Berea in 1877, and a few years later to Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Lawson died in 1890, and in 1892 the family moved to Los Angeles, Cal. In 1901 his mother purchased a farm in Highland, near Los Angeles, and here the children still reside. Jesse is a farmer by occupation and his work is found in the orange groves near Highland.

He is unmarried.
