John S. Gordon

John S., (Sarah2, John1) son of Sarah and William Gordon, was born May 18, 1831, in Royalton, Ohio. When he was five years old his father removed to Tekonsha, Mich., where John was reared on his father's farm. He was married in February, 1858, to Miss Elizabeth Amy. She died in 1861, and in 1862 he was married to Miss Hannah Ellis. He separated from her and on Feb. 16, 1873, was married to Cynthia Ward.

Mr. Gordon enlisted in September, 1861, in the First Mich., Infantry. He was discharged in May, 1862, for disability, but he soon re-enlisted in the Michigan Mechanics and served until the close of the war.

Charles A. (John3, Sarah2, John1) was the only child of John S. and Elizabeth Gordon. He was born Jan. 11, 1859, in Tekonsha, Calhoun Co., Mich. He took up railroad work when twenty years of age and has been employed in it since. He is in the train department.

He was married Feb. 26, 1889, to Miss Lina A. Layman, at Muskegon, Mich. She was born in Germany, Jan. 13, 1871. They reside in Grand Rapids, Mich., at 1248 Oakdale Ave.
